What to know about rolling roadblocks, closure on Alcoa Highway this week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Rolling roadblocks are continuing on Alcoa Highway as work on the multiyear Alcoa Highway corridor project stretches on.

Starting Monday, December 15, through Saturday, December 20, rolling roadblocks will be conducted on Alcoa Highway (US 129/State Route 115) between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail. The roadblocks will take place in 20-minute intervals between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and be spaced out to allow traffic flow to continue between operations.

Also during this time period, crews will be conducting flagging operations on the ramp from northbound Alcoa Highway at the traffic signal at Cherokee Trail and along Cherokee Trail between the Alcoa Highway interchange and Medical Center Way. This will also take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., allowing crews to unload materials and trucks to safely enter and exit the work areas.

Then at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, through 6 a.m. on Friday, December 19, the right southbound lane of Alcoa Highway will be closed at Woodson Drive. This will allow utility crews to install new connections…
