KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Nonprofit group Variety of Eastern Tennessee is making a major impact on the lives of children with special needs by helping parents get the equipment they need.
Three-year-old Dolly Hamilton got a new tricycle on Tuesday. You could see it meant the world to her and to her dad, Michael. She has Turner Syndrome, a congenital heart defect and epilepsy. She is one of six children receive mobile adaptive equipment from Variety of East Tennessee, which has raised $600,000 for kids with special this year.
“The insurance don’t pay for a lot of things. They’ll pay for one wheelchair, or they’ll pay for a bathing chair. But a lot of times the children need an additional piece of sitting material. And that’s where Variety steps in,” said Variety of East Tennessee Executive Director Carol Fusco…
