HISD’s early calendar drafts for 2026-27 school year propose starting class during week of Aug. 10

Houston ISD has drafted two preliminary calendars that both propose starting the upcoming 2026-27 school year during the week of Aug. 10.

One of the two versions proposes fewer days off during the school year and would end classes in late May, about a week earlier than the second option. Otherwise, there are few differences between the two calendars — each include 181 days of class for students and six days of professional development for staff.

Neither version of the calendar is final. District administrators plan to gather community feedback in January before they finalize the calendar. Then it would go before the state-appointed Board of Managers for approval at its Feb. 12 meeting…
