SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County commissioners unanimously approved a new contract Tuesday with MEDIKO Correctional Healthcare, clearing the way for a new medical provider to take over care at the Spokane County Jail after years of lawsuits and multiple inmate deaths.
The four-year agreement replaces the current provider and is set to take effect in February 2026. There are automatic annual renewals in place for up to four more years, potentially extending through January 2034.
