TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – University of Arizona researchers received nearly $1 million in federal funding to advance skin cancer research, focusing on prevention methods for a state with one of the highest UV indexes in the country.
The $917K grant from the National Cancer Institute is one of only five awarded nationwide. Researchers at the Arizona Cancer Center are developing ways to help the body prevent skin cancer before it develops.
“Skin cancer is different, particularly when it comes to non-melanoma skin cancer, 96% of the skin cancers.
