HALAWA, Hawaii (Island News) — Hālawa Correctional Facility marked a major milestone on Monday as 27-year-old inmate Temauraʻi Border became the first person at the facility to earn an associate of arts degree from Windward Community College (WCC) while in custody.
Border received his Associate of Arts degree in liberal arts during a commencement ceremony held Dec. 15, 2025.
Border said, “Coming to prison, I never thought I would achieve this higher learning”.
The “Yuletide Commencement: Celebrating Growth and Gratitude” ceremony also recognized more than 35 inmates currently enrolled in college programs through WCC and Chaminade University of Honolulu…
