Columbus council meeting erupts over airport project and city manager search

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – A Columbus City Council meeting turned contentious Tuesday as councilors clashed with airport officials and the mayor over transparency concerns regarding a new aviation terminal and the ongoing city manager search.

The Columbus Airport is planning a brand new General Aviation Terminal, replacing its 35-year-old building. This new, larger terminal will be almost 19,000 square feet and will offer better facilities for corporate and charter flights, flight training, military operations, and medical transport. It will have more restrooms, private seating areas, better flight planning facilities and even space for TSA screening. The design focuses on making the airport a welcoming “gateway” to Columbus, improving efficiency and supporting the region’s economy. The estimated cost for the building is between $11-$13 million, with a total estimated project cost of $18.91-$20.91 million.
