Portage public safety director retires, replacement appointed

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Portage’s public safety director is retiring after years in the position, and the city has appointed someone to take his place.

Nicholas Armold has led the Portage Department of Public Safety for 11 years, the city told News 8. Tuesday will be his last day.

“With deep appreciation, the city of Portage thanks Director Armold for his steady leadership and commitment to our residents,” said City Manager Pat McGinnis in a statement provided to News 8. “We wish him the very best in his retirement.”

To replace Armold, the city manager has appointed Matt Wolfe, according to documents posted on the city’s website. Wolfe currently serves as the assistant police chief. He began his career with the city of Portage in 1996…
