Holtec International’s reopening of the Palisades Nuclear Generating Station will help reverse a rare decline in global nuclear capacity, part of a wave of 15 new reactors set to come online in 2026 as the industry races to meet surging demand from data centers.
That’s according to an analysis by BloombergNEF, which found that just two new reactors went into service this year through November, while seven shut down, leading total nuclear capacity to shrink by 1.1 gigawatts.
The Palisades plant will be part of approximately 12 gigawatts of fission power expected to come online in 2026. However, it will likely be several years before any new traditional nuclear projects in the US are completed…
