PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (WSAV) — The City of Port Wentworth is advising residents to ignore and report fraudulent texts claiming to be from City Hall requesting money to settle past due accounts.
“This is a scam. The City of Port Wentworth never requests payment via text message. Residents should disregard and report this fraudulent activity,” said City Manager Steve Davis. “This criminal behavior is designed to look authentic and falsely demands that immediate payment is made with details about dates and sums of money. Our text message system is for city announcements only, and we will never ask for payment via texts.”…
