Made in Iowa Merry Market offers final holiday boost for local businesses

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — After two consecutive winter-weather weekends disrupted one of the most important shopping periods of the year, small businesses across Eastern Iowa are getting one final opportunity to rebound before Christmas.

Heavy snow during Small Business Saturday weekend, Nov. 29–30, reduced turnout and led to event cancellations and temporary closures across the region.

Just one week later, bitter cold and dangerous wind chills again kept shoppers at home, forcing additional cancellations and further cutting into sales during what is typically the busiest time of year for local makers and retailers…
