Fort Bend ISD to receive $1.5m from the county for the Sugar Land 95 memorial project

Fort Bend County Commissioners Court has approved an investment of $1.5m of county parks bond funds to go towards the Fort Bend Independent School District’s (FBISD) Sugar Land 95 Memorial Project, estimated to cost $4m.

The school district reports that an Interlocal Agreement with FBISD was spearheaded by Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers. And along those lines, the investment from the county, approved last Thursday, is for providing initial funding to improve site accessibility and make the much-needed improvements to the cemetery grounds.

“As FBISD Board President, both during the discovery of the cemetery and today, I am extremely thankful that the county has partnered with the school district,” said FBISD’s board president Kristin Tassin. “This investment will be a catalyst for the work that needs to be done to memorialize the historic cemetery.”…
