ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Retired Albuquerque Police Officer Timothy McCarson has taken a guilty plea in federal court related to the ongoing DWI corruption scheme, where officers admit to conspiring with a defense attorney and taking cash in exchange for DWI dismissals.
Former ‘DWI King’ fired from New Mexico State Police
According to federal court documents, McCarson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit interference with commerce by extortion. McCarson joined APD in 2006, and was assigned to work in the DWI unit in 2011. He retired from APD in July of 2022.
In at least one arrest, McCarson admitted to accepting $5,000 in exchange for no criminal charges to be filed against a DWI arrestee of his, according to his plea agreement.
