RWU employees ask Board of Trustees to intervene and revoke mandatory furloughs

BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — More than 200 unionized employees at Roger Williams University (RWU) have signed a petition urging the Board of Trustees to invoke its authority and stop the school’s mandatory furlough plan.

The petition was submitted to the Board of Trustees on Wednesday, according to the National Education Association Rhode Island (NEARI).

The petition describes the unpaid one-week furloughs as “unlawful, unfair and unnecessary.”

The employees are requesting that the Board of Trustees revoke the plan immediately and work collaboratively with administrators to address the university’s financial challenges “without forcing workers to absorb the cost.”…
