One by one, the past and present members of San Antonio’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commission arrived at the recording studio to tell the stories of how they helped write a chapter of the Alamo City’s history.
Past and present commissioners Aaronetta Pierce, Dwayne Robinson and Doshie Piper opened the sessions. Then came long-time civil rights activists T. C. Calvert, Mario Salas and John H. Sanders. They were followed by community advocates Renee Watson, Deborah Warner and Linda Tippins.
They have all played key roles in making organizing San Antonio’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. march. The event, which officially began in 1987, has become on of the nation’s largest marches in honor of the late civil rights leader, who was assassinated in 1968.
