CORVALLIS, Ore. – An hours-long standoff with an armed suspect who reportedly barricaded himself inside a Corvallis home on Tuesday ended with the suspect suffering an apparent fatal drug overdose, according to the Corvallis Police Department.
CPD officials said that they attempted to serve a search warrant related to a stolen firearm at about 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 16 at a home in the 800 block of Northwest 23rd Street. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Jacob Jaeger, reportedly barricaded himself in a room, claimed to be armed, and refused to exit, police said. Authorities said that efforts to resolve the standoff peacefully included telephone communication, loud hailing, and drones. These efforts involved the Corvallis Police Department, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Linn County Regional SWAT team. By 11:50 a.m., SWAT members gained limited access to the room and Jaeger was found deceased from an apparent drug overdose.
