According to the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office, Chunilall was visiting Schenectady for a religious home sale celebration when he stopped by the victim’s family home. The jury convicted the defendant of going to the victim’s room in the early morning hours of November 30, 2024, and attempting to rape her before she was able to kick him off of her and leave the room to tell her father, who then called the police.

The defendant told the jury that he went up to the victim’s room at the father’s request to speak about school issues, but the jury rejected his testimony and found him guilty on both charges. Chunilall faces up to one year in Schenectady County Jail or six years of probation and will be required to register as a sex offender when he is sentenced on February 4.
