A Columbia Walgreens store plans to close its doors. Here’s where and when

A major pharmacy chain is set to close a Columbia store along a busy road.

Walgreens, which has thousands of stores across the U.S., plans to close the location at 6500 Garners Ferry Road on Jan. 27, 2026, according to a notice on the company’s website and signage posted on the front door of the store.

The sign on the front door of the Walgreens at 6500 Garners Ferry says the location — both the store and its pharmacy — will close for good at noon on Jan. 27. The sign noted that the location’s prescription files will be sent to the Walgreens at 7801 Garners Ferry. That’s about three miles south of the location at 6500 Garners Ferry.

The Walgreens that is closing at 6500 Garners Ferry is in the midst of a high-traffic commercial corridor, directly across from the Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Numerous businesses are nearby including Target, Krispy Kreme, Sonic Drive-In and Barnes & Noble, among others…
