CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – In every corner of Liz and Brett Thompson’s home in Magnolia Green, you’ll find twinkling lights, your favorite characters, and even an Elf on a Shelf.
“The reason we do the lights is for the community,” said Liz Thompson.
Liz Thompson said the tradition started with a sled.
“When I was a kid, growing up, just right down the road, my dad created a sled for our yard and always entered into the neighborhood lights contest,” she said. “When I got married, I told my husband that was the one thing that he had to do for me is make me a sled. So, he created a wood sled and that was kind of the start of our whole entire yard display.”
Every year, there’s new decorations to see. This year, people can expect to see a sign in the front yard, which says “Shine Bright For Chloe,” honoring 14-year-old Chloe Callaway.
