Roanoke paying $6,000 a month for casino lobbying

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – WDBJ7 has learned the City of Roanoke has signed a contract with a lobbying firm to push for support from the Virginia Government for its plan to bring a casino to the Berglund Center.

On Wednesday morning, the city provided WDBJ7 with a copy of its contract with Two Capitols Consulting, a Richmond-based lobbying firm. The contract was signed on September 22 and shows that the city is paying $6,000 per month for the firm to lobby for support of the casino project from state lawmakers.

City Council Member Phazhon Nash said the money to pay the lobbying firm had already been set aside in this year’s budget and is not being taken from any other city departments…
