Angels of Assisi hosts its seventh annual mega adoption event to boost adoption numbers

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)– This weekend, Angels of Assisi will host its seventh annual mega adoption event in hopes of boosting adoption numbers for itself and 11 other shelters.

“Our adoption numbers have been lower this month, and sometimes that can be, you know, people are realizing that Christmas is coming up, they’re worried about getting animals before having family over, things like that,” said Ethan Claridge, the director of adoptions at Angels of Assisi. “But it’s honestly a really good time to get animals because people have time off from school and work, oftentimes around Thanksgiving and Christmas. So it’s a really good time for the animal to be able to settle in before going back to work in the new year.”

Angels of Assisi will be bringing out all their animals, from puppies to kittens to rabbits and rats, a different kind of animal for every person to bring home.

“A lot of these shelters in the area are completely full,” said Claridge. “It gives space for, if they do get an influx of animals, they have the space to take them. That’s just really important because otherwise, you know, sometimes they have to make some tough decisions.”…
