Muni may raise fees for parking as it stares down a deficit. But some violations will cost less

Faced with a staggering budget deficit that could exceed $300 million annually, officials at the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency are constantly seeking creative ways to cut costs.

Now they’re waging the scrimp-and-save campaign on multiple fronts, targeting parking meters as well as fare payment systems on Muni.

Budget analysts found that with a few changes, like hourly increases for parking rates and the elimination of discounts for Clipper, the agency could save nearly $30 million over the next two fiscal years…
