SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A 73-year-old woman nearly lost more than $18,000 in a scam where fraudsters posed as bank investigators, Sarasota police said.
The woman spent two hours on the phone with a scammer posing as a bank fraud investigator, police said. The caller told her someone inside the bank withdrew nearly $10,000 from her account.
The scammer instructed the woman to withdraw $18,500 in cash and cards and give it to an FDIC representative who would meet her at the bank, promising a refund, according to investigators…
