Deputy wounded, suspect killed in Augusta County arrest attempt

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Virginia State Police is investigating after an attempted arrest by Augusta County authorities took a violent turn Wednesday night, ending with a deputy wounded by gunfire and the suspect being killed.

The shooting happened on the 800 block of Parkersburg Turnpike about two miles west of Staunton shortly after 8:30 p.m. State Police said three members of the sheriff’s office’s narcotics unit were there to make an arrest.
