NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Dr. Eric Lowe, chair of the EVMS/ODU Department of Pediatrics and CHKD’s Chief Clinical Academic Officer, is denouncing a recent hepatitis B vaccine change.
Dr. Lowe, along with the pediatric department chairs at the University of Virginia (UVA) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), sent a joint letter expressing their concern about ending universal hepatitis B vaccination at birth.
CDC adopts controversial hepatitis B vaccine change
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is no longer recommending giving all infants a dose of the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours after birth. This controversial change was recommendedby their vaccine advisory panel. That panel was selected by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vocal critic of vaccines.
