NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority hosted its annual Second Chance Bikes Giveaway, distributing four refurbished bicycles to residents selected randomly from their social media.
The bikes are formerly used bicycles that have been worked on and transformed into new wheels for recipients. CARTA officials said the event serves an important purpose because some people use bicycles as their main form of transportation.
“Giving away free bikes in our community is really a great thing,” CARTA Chairman Mike Seekings said. “It makes you feel good and to see people come and literally ride away with a smile on their face. It makes everything else really worthwhile and it puts it in perspective. This is the season of giving.”…
