SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officers issued 11 summonses and 19 warnings to hunters after discovering multiple violations, including duck baiting, at Saint Helena Wildlife Management Area.
Region 4 officers received a tip about possible duck baiting activity and coordinated an investigation that revealed scattered shell corn in the area, according to a social media post by the South Carolina Game Wardens.
Duck baiting investigation and violations
Duck baiting is the illegal practice of placing bait, such as corn or other feed, in or near waterfowl hunting areas to attract ducks and other waterfowl. The practice is prohibited under federal and state hunting regulations.
