An Indiana father faces felony charges following a heartbreaking incident on December 15, 2025. The Greenfield Police Department received a call about a young child walking outside alone in the snow wearing nothing but a diaper. When they arrived at the Prairie Meadows apartment complex in Greenfield around 3 p.m., police officers found a crying 2-year-old who had hypothermia and frostbite. They quickly put the child in a warm car before following a trail of tiny footprints. They ended their search at an apartment on Switchgrass Drive, where the door was slightly ajar. Inside, the child’s father, 20-year-old Logan Nickolas, lay sleeping on the couch. Now, he’s sleeping in a jail cell, awaiting his fate.
According to court documents obtained by Fox 59, when police arrived at the apartment, the temperature outside was just 13 degrees. The toddler’s skin was dark red and the toes and fingers had frostbite. Per a police news release, “Officers made several loud announcements before the man woke up.” Nickolas told officers the child was his and belonged at the apartment. He denied using drugs and claimed he’d “dozed off” on the couch. Court documents revealed the apartment reportedly smelled like “burnt marijuana.” Officers reported finding drug paraphernalia inside the apartment and a handgun on the counter.
The child’s mother, identified online as Alexis Summers, reportedly told police it was her apartment, Fox 59 reported. She said she let Nickolas stay there “on and off.” She also claimed he smoked marijuana and used “any other type of drug that he could get his hands on.”
Alexis Summers’ sister, Jada Summers, shared a long, supportive post on Facebook for her sister…
