‘Don’t mess this up:’ Horry County’s top prosecutor wants lawmakers to OK coercive control bill

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry and Georgetown county’s top prosecutor says a state bill to tackle a form of abuse could have wide-spread impacts.

The coercive control bill, pre-filed by Sen. Stephen Goldfinch of Murrells Inlet is the second one he’s filed this year and has been cleaned up since the first one in April.

“The best laws are those that leave enough wiggle room,” Jimmy Richardson, the 15th circuit solicitor said. “And when you try to be too specific, then it really paints you into a corner as to what you can use it for.”…
