Blog: Heavy rain to impact Hampton Roads tonight

We have another mild day ahead of us across Hampton Roads as southerly winds will keep temperatures above normal for this time of year. This warmth is all ahead of a cold front which will move through overnight tonight and into Friday morning.

In this radar and satellite image, you can see the cold front moving through the Mississippi river valley as of Thursday morning. This front will be moving east quickly and link up with some moisture moving north out of the Gulf. This will allow for a heavy rain risk for many areas today.

For us in Hampton Roads, cloudy skies will accompany us for the daylight hours along with dry conditions since the front is still far to our west. Highs across the southside and North Carolina will be in the lower and middle 60s while the Peninsulas and Eastern Shore will be a touch cooler in the upper 50s for the most part.

As we go through the day, winds will slowly increase out of the south and by the end of the day we will be looking at wind gusts upwards of 20-25mph.

The strongest of the winds will move in along and behind the cold front. We could see some areas gust near 40mph tomorrow morning. This along with heavy rain may cause isolated power outages…
