Here’s where Roanoke City leaders stand on casino idea

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – WDBJ7 learned Wednesday that the City of Roanoke is paying a lobbying firm $6,000 a month to advocate for its casino project in the General Assembly.

So far, it’s been a mixed bag from City Council members on their support for the casino idea. Five members have made public comments about where they stand, while two others have yet to explicitly come out for or against the plan.

Mayor Joe Cobb has advocated for the potential benefits of a casino, telling WDBJ7 in October that the idea is all about increasing city revenue without raising taxes. Council members Peter Volosin and Phazhon Nash have joined Cobb in publicly expressing support for the project…
