Poll reveals Marylanders favor spending cuts over tax hikes to tackle $1.4 billion deficit

MARYLAND (WBFF) — A recent poll conducted by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) surveyed 800 Marylanders, revealing that 41% believe the state’s $1.4 billion budget deficit should be addressed “only or mostly with spending cuts to state government programs.”

Meanwhile, 40% support a combination of spending cuts and tax increases, and 10% favor addressing the deficit “only or mostly with increases to taxes and fees.”

“People want a different way to solve this problem and spending cuts, real spending cuts, that’s how you solve this problem. You don’t ask taxpayers for more money; you take away money from Annapolis,” said taxpayer advocate David Williams…
