LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Students and staff at Byck Elementary experienced a brief lockdown early Thursday morning after employees heard what sounded like gunshots in the surrounding neighborhood.
According to a letter sent to families by Principal Kim Coleman, the school immediately followed safety protocols, notifying the District Operations Center and moving to the highest security level. This included keeping students and staff out of hallways and away from windows.
Less than ten minutes later, officials cleared the school to resume normal operations. The incident prompting the lockdown occurred blocks from the school and was unrelated to the campus itself…
