Son charged after injuring El Paso police officer

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 58-year-old man and his son were arrested after an assault investigation resulted in an officer being injured last month at Chico’s Tacos, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).

Shortly after 4:20 p.m. on Nov. 22, EPPFD officers responded to an assault-in-progress call at the Chico’s Tacos located at 1365 George Dieter Drive.

The initial investigation resulted in the arrest of 58-year-old Jose Valles Rios for groping a woman who was standing in line with her child. He was charged with assault with a $242 bond, according to police.

While officers were investigating, the arrestee’s adult son, 38-year-old Vicente Rios, who showed signs of intoxication, repeatedly interfered with the investigation despite being told multiple times to leave the area.

As the arresting officer prepared to take the arrestee, Vicente Rios again approached the offices and refused “lawful commands,” according to police. When the officer attempted to detain Vicente Rios, he resisted arrest, leading to a physical struggle where the officer sustained a knee injury during the encounter…
