Ridgeland police warn of fake warrant phone scam demanding PayPal, Venmo or Cash App payments

The Ridgeland Police Department is warning residents about a scam that has been floating around the community.

According to Ridgeland Court Services, the callers involved in the scam may say that you have active warrants for your arrest and payment must be sent using a payment app like PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App. Scammers may also provide valid names of Officers who are employed with the Ridgeland Police Department to make the scam appear legitimate.

“The Ridgeland Police Department and Ridgeland Court Services employees will never ask for payment over the phone,” RPD said in a statement…
