Crews begin salting Rockford roads ahead of possible icy travel

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – With temperatures set to plummet Thursday evening and slick travel expected, the city of Rockford begins salting arterial routes.

The Public Works Department says crews began salting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18. Leaders say decisions about further deployment will be made as needed, depending on conditions.

Drivers are reminded to follow at a safe distance behind snowplows to prevent salt from hitting vehicles and give drivers space to back up if needed…
