Lubbock student honored in Optimum’s Hispanic Heritage Month Contest

LUBBOCK, Texas — Chloe Luna from Talkington School for Young Women Leaders was announced as a runner up in Optimum’s Hispanic Heritage Month essay contest. On Tuesday, December 16, the school, Optimum and Mayor Mark McBrayer was in attendance to celebrate her accomplishment.

The Optimum’s Hispanic Heritage Month essay contest, invited students across the company’s 21-state footprint to share in 500 words or less a person, cultural experience, celebration or tradition that has helped them connect to Hispanic culture and explain what it means to them.

My Mexican culture has reflected on everything I’ve ever done. The way I say words, greet people, the things I eat, etc.. One big thing my culture has taught me is respect. I always shake hands when I meet someone for the first time, I say “yes ma’am, no ma’am” and “yes sir, no sir” I always help someone out when they need it, and I did all of that to make sure my culture was represented,” an excerpt from the Cloe’s essay titled: Am I Enough?
