77 birds allegedly trained for cockfighting in Mexico seized in Commerce City

DENVER (KDVR) — Police have seized 77 hens and roosters that were allegedly trained to be used for cockfighting in Mexico from a property in Commerce City.

The Commerce City Police Department said investigators served a search warrant Thursday morning at the property in the 5900 block of East 69th Avenue. They seized 77 birds that were mostly kept in cages outside.

The search comes after a U.S. Postal Inspector asked police to be present for the search of a “suspicious parcel” last month, police said. Inside the package were “blades that can be affixed to the birds’ talons to better equip them for fighting.”…
