CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville’s Legal Aid Justice Center is calling on the state government to help close the achievement gap among English Language Learners, students whose native language is not English in Virginia’s K-12 schools.
The legal nonprofit has published a comprehensive report examining how and why most of Virginia’s nearly 150,000 English learners have been falling behind in the classroom, based on data from the Virginia Department of Education and internal research with families.
