The community room at Wesley Chapel Library on the evening of Dec. 9 was packed to capacity with extra chairs brought in and some visitors standing around the walls. They had come to participate in a community forum, announced as an event at which “activists, organizers, and south DeKalb residents” could come together “to educate and mobilize” against a proposed 1 million-square-foot Ellenwood data center.
Ellenwood is an unincorporated area that includes parts of DeKalb, Henry, Clayton and Rockdale counties.
Currently, there are no data centers in unincorporated DeKalb County. The forum was held in anticipation of a Dec. 16 DeKalb County Board of Commissioners vote on a critical text amendment necessary for the county to rule on zoning, land use permits and other issues as they relate to data centers…
