Former county commissioner pleads guilty to filing fraudulent report

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A former Vanderburgh County Commissioner is not expected to see jail time after pleading guilty to filing a fraudulent report on Friday.

The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office tells Eyewitness News that Benjamin Shoulders plead guilty to the felony charge, but if he completes a six month probation period the charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor. Shoulders was accused of taking more than $55,000 from his campaign account for the purchase of sports memorabilia.

As part of his guilty plea, Shoulders was ordered to pay a $57,164.24 restitution in equal amounts to five nonprofits chosen by the prosecutor’s office. Eyewitness News has learned that the prosecutor’s office will have the donations made to Holly’s House, Little Lambs, the Parenting Time Center, Vanderburgh County Humane Society and Youth Resources of Southwestern Indiana…
