Public hearing held on Fort Wayne’s proposed water rate hike, comment window remains open

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) held a public hearing on Wednesday to gather feedback on the city’s proposed water rate hike.

This comes after City Utilities proposed an incremental increase to water rates over the next 3 years, meant to accommodate growing infrastructure repair and upgrade needs.

Under the proposal, in-city households currently paying $30 a month could expect to pay close to $32 in 2026, and $35 by 2028.

A decision on the matter won’t be made until the summer of 2026, but the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC), the state body that oversees cases like this one, is currently taking the public’s feedback on the matter…
