REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. — U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command at Redstone Arsenal is preparing to track Santa Claus during his annual journey across North America this Christmas Eve.
Lt. Gen. Sean Gainey noted that volunteers from across the command will staff the operations center, monitoring Santa’s progress with the same sensors and radars typically reserved for tracking potential threats.
“Normally, we’re tracking any type of threat out there. But this time of year, we use those same sensors to actually track Santa Claus,” Gainey said. “As fast as Santa moves, our radars and satellite sensors are easily able to pick him up.”…
