Flourtown man sent to prison for crash that killed landscaper in Whitemarsh

NORRISTOWN — A Flourtown man will spend up to six years in prison for leaving the scene of a crash after he struck and killed a Norristown man performing landscaping work along a Whitemarsh Township roadway.

Shakim Elias Mendez, 19, of the 200 block of Sunnybrook Road, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 3 to 6 years in a state correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to charges of homicide by vehicle and accidents involving death or leaving the scene of a crash in connection with the Nov. 8, 2024, fatal pedestrian crash.

The crash occurred about 3:15 p.m. along the 6000 block of West Valley Green Road and claimed the life of 35-year-old Artemio De La Rosa Martinez, of Norristown, who was performing landscaping work along the roadway with his brother…
