(KRON) — A driver was killed early Friday when their Tesla veered off Highway 17 in Los Gatos and collided with a tree down the embankment, sparking a fire that fully engulfed the car, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fiery crash, which occurred around 12:30 a.m. south of Lark Avenue, shut down the two northbound lanes of Highway 17 for several hours.
CHP confirmed that the driver in the Tesla Model 3 was the sole occupant inside the vehicle when it went off the right shoulder and crashed.
“It is unknown if at the time of the crash the Tesla’s Autonomous capabilities were activated or if alcohol or drugs were a factor,” CHP told KRON4…
