Local nonprofit delivers holiday cheer to APS students, family members

AKRON — Akron Public Schools (APS) is wrapping up the year with a story of community giving, thanks to the generosity of Abigail Spraggins, CEO and founder of the nonprofit organization Abby’s Helping Hands, Hopeful Hearts.

On Dec. 12, the organization delivered a massive collection of Christmas gifts, clothing and essential items to 10 APS families in need, impacting 60 individuals across the school community, according to APS officials.

Abby’s Helping Hands, Hopeful Hearts, which officially launched as a nonprofit in 2023, works directly with APS family liaisons to discreetly identify families who are facing financial hardship during the holiday season. The gifts provided this year included critical items like new coats, shoes, hats and gloves, alongside major wish list items such as bikes, tablets, basketball hoops and a variety of toys.
