SKOKIE, IL — Local leaders are backing Bushra Amiwala for Congress in Illinois’ 9th district. Trustees Lissa Levy (district 3), Jim Iverson (district 4) and Gail Schechter (at-large) have all endorsed Amiwala in the campaign for the March 2026 primary, a December 16, 2025, press release said.
“I am thrilled to have the support of Trustees Levy, Iverson and Schechter,” said Amiwala, an elected Skokie District 73.5 Board member. “I have spent a lifetime working alongside them right here in my hometown. These are three local leaders who are truly motivated to improve the quality of life in Skokie.”
With a population of almost 70,000 residents, Skokie is among the largest and most important municipalities in the district. No candidate in IL-09 has earned as many endorsements from officials in Skokie as Amiwala has, the campaign said…
