6 robbed at gunpoint while trying to sell gym shoes in Morgan Park: CPD

Chicago police are warning the public about another rash of Facebook Marketplace robberies, saying six people have been mugged in Morgan Park while trying to sell gym shoes they offered for sale online. Two of the robberies occurred last night.

CPD said an armed robber using the account name “Serving Best Deals” is responding to ads for Air Jordans and other Nike brand shoes for sale on the marketplace. When the would-be sellers arrive to complete the deals, they are confronted by one or two men who display guns and take the shoes without paying.

Police released the following list of robbery locations and times:

  • 1700 block of West Steuben on December 3 at 1:30 p.m.
  • 1700 block of West Edmaire on December 4 at 4:15 p.m.
  • 11300 block of South Davol on December 10 at 1:37 p.m.
  • 11300 block of South Davol on December 10 at 3:49 p.m.
  • 1600 block of West Monterey on December 18 at 5:20 p.m.
  • 11000 block of South Ashland on December 18 at 8:17 p.m.

CPD said the primary offender is a Black man, 18 to 21 years old, about 5’10” to 6-foot tall, 150 pounds, with a light complexion, dreadlocks, a black puffy coat, gray pants, white Jordan shoes, and tattoos on both hands. A second suspect is a Black man, 25 to 30 years old, about 5’11”, wearing all black clothing…
