HOMEOWNERS will be forced to pay a new $30 fee from January 1 to bin popular household gadgets under a new ‘trash law’.
From the New Year, residents in Spokane County, Washington state, will see their garbage and recycling bills rise by four per cent, with the fee added when they dispose of appliances containing refrigerant.
The new fee will apply to items such as fridges, freezers, air conditioners and water coolers, which all contain chemicals that require specialist handling.
