No holiday colors this year for historic GE sign

SCHENECTADY — Chris Hunter, president of the MiSci Museum, said he’s fielded about a dozen or so inquiries over the past month from people asking what’s up with the landmark General Electric Co. monogram not being awash in its customary holiday season red-and-green glow up.

“I think GE has strong roots in the community and the sign is kind of symbolic of that, so part of it is the sign being the tradition and the symbolism of that factory… and when they saw that they didn’t change over the sign, I think people worried that something might have been happening,” said Hunter, who oversees operations at the museum.

Hunter has had to explain to the callers that GE Vernova is doing some retooling work on the sign that sits atop Building 37, once home to the GE Research Laboratory.
